      How to use the planner

      1. Pick an event: Diwali or another festival, wedding, birthday party, back-to-school, family trip or your own.
      2. Choose “I have a total budget” to split a fixed amount, or “Add up my costs” to build the total from each item.
      3. Edit the categories. Rename them, change amounts, add or remove rows.
      4. Keep a buffer for surprises. 10% is a common choice.
      5. Enter the months left and what you have saved. See how much to save each month and each week.

      Worked example: Diwali

Meena has a โ‚น40,000 Diwali budget and 3 months to go. She keeps a 10% buffer and taps “Split budget across categories”.

Sweets and food get โ‚น7,300, gifts โ‚น9,100, clothes โ‚น7,300 and travel to family โ‚น3,600. Decor, puja items and home repairs share the rest.

Her categories total โ‚น36,300. The buffer adds โ‚น3,630, so the plan is โ‚น39,930, just inside her budget.

She would save about โ‚น13,310 a month, or about โ‚น3,072 a week. On the day, she pays in cash with no bills afterwards.

      Celebrate without debt

      • Save first, then spend. Festive EMI offers make it easy to overspend on wants.
      • Over budget? Ask “need or want?” for each category. Trim the wants first, like extra decor.
      • Start a small monthly festival fund in a separate account, so the money is ready each year.
      • Keep your emergency fund separate. Celebrations are planned costs, not emergencies.
      • For a wedding, decide the guest list first. Food and venue grow with every guest.
      • For back-to-school, reuse last year’s bag and bottle, and pass on books between siblings.

      Questions people ask

      Why add a buffer?

Costs often run a little higher than planned. A buffer means one surprise does not break the whole plan.

Can I plan a big event like a wedding?

Yes. Start a year ahead if you can. With the wedding template, a โ‚น10 lakh budget over 12 months works out to about โ‚น83,280 a month. An early start keeps the monthly amount smaller.
